Are you looking for a rollator that suits your daily routine and wondering what to check before ordering? This 9-point checklist helps you narrow down suitable models and prepare to try them out. You can find current versions and prices directly in our Buy a rollator category.
This guide from the saneq editorial team draws on information from manufacturers drive and DIETZ, recommendations from ZQP and BFU, and documents from Swiss authorities. The models and ranges of measurements reflect our product range as of October 2026. We have not carried out our own practical tests. Follow the instructions for use for your specific version.
Do you need a rollator or another walking aid?
A rollator can give you support if you can steer it and use the brakes. If you are unsure, ask a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or your GP practice which walking aid suits your needs. Our guide Rollator or walking frame? explains the differences.
Which type of rollator suits your daily life?
Think about a typical day: will the rollator stay at home, go shopping with you or regularly travel in the car? This helps you decide what matters most:
At home: A short, narrow design and surfaces for carrying items are useful indoors. Find out more in Rollators for indoor use.
Daily outings with breaks: Look for a suitable seat and brakes you can operate easily.
Outdoor routes: Choose wheels and tyres for the surfaces specified by the manufacturer. Our article Rollators with pneumatic tyres explains the differences.
Frequent loading into the car: Compare weights with the accessories you take along. Our guide Carbon or aluminium helps you weigh up the options.
Checklist: what should you check before you choose?
Bring any questions to your consultation. Ask for a demonstration of how to use the model you are considering, then note what you can do yourself and where you need help.
1. Is the handle height right for you?
Depending on the model and size, handle heights in our range can be adjusted between 71.8 and 101 cm. With your arms hanging loosely at your sides, the handles should be roughly level with your wrists. Our guide Which rollator suits me? shows you how to measure your handle height.
2. Will the rollator fit through your narrow spaces?
Overall widths when unfolded range from 52 to 70.5 cm. Compare the unfolded model's width with your doorways and passages, allowing room for your hands. Try turning around too; our guide Rollators for indoor use helps you prepare.
3. Can you lift it with your accessories?
The Nitro SL, for example, weighs 6.3 kg including accessories. With a stable footing, check whether you can lift and set down the model you are considering, with its accessories, while keeping control of the movement. If lifting is difficult, arrange help with loading it into the car. A full bag adds extra weight.
4. Is the maximum load high enough?
The stated load limits range from 100 to 150 kg. Compare your body weight with the limit for your version and read the instructions to see how carried items count towards it. For the TAiMA XC, their weight is included in the 150 kg limit. The bag, basket and tray also have their own maximum loads.
5. Can you operate the brakes safely?
The Roomba, for example, has a continuous brake bar. Once the rollator is adjusted, check that you can reach the brake, squeeze it with your hand strength and lock it. If the rollator moves despite the parking brake being engaged, do not sit on it and have the brakes checked by a specialist retailer.
6. Is the seat suitable for your breaks?
For our models with seats, the stated seat widths range from 34 to 46 cm and seat heights from 45 to 62 cm. Once the rollator is secured, try the seat to check that you have enough room and can place both feet firmly on the ground. Check that you can stand up in a controlled way too.
7. Do the tyres and kerb aid suit your routes?
The TAiMA XC has 31 cm wheels with a choice of pneumatic or soft PU tyres. DIETZ specifies that it may only be used on firm, level ground. Ask to be shown how to use the tipping aid safely at kerbs. Our article Rollators with pneumatic tyres looks at tyre choice in more detail.
8. Can you fold and transport it?
The Nitro, for example, is 25 cm wide when folded. Ask to be shown how to fold, unfold and lock it according to the instructions, then try it with a stable footing. Keep your fingers and clothing clear of the folding joints. Compare all the folded external dimensions with the boot opening and the space inside the car.
9. Are the accessories you need included?
The Cristallo comes with a basket, tray and walking stick holder; the basket and tray each hold up to 5 kg. Check what is included with your chosen version and note any extras you need. Before buying, ask about compatible accessories approved by the manufacturer and their load limits.

Basic health insurance does not contribute towards the cost of rollators. Before buying, check whether supplementary insurance offers a contribution and which other organisations may be able to help. Our guide to costs and funding explains who to contact.
