Looking to buy a wheelchair for everyday life in Switzerland? saneq offers six manual drive models: affordable standard wheelchairs, lightweight options for frequent transport and a multifunction wheelchair with adjustable seating positions. Compare seat width, overall width, weight and brakes. The Ecotec 2G is the entry-level option; the other models add equipment and adjustment options to suit different needs and budgets.
Which wheelchair suits your everyday needs?
Standard wheelchairs: Ecotec 2G and Rotec
The drive Ecotec 2G is an option for basic equipment at a lower price: a steel frame, swing-away armrests and removable rear wheels. It can be self-propelled or pushed by an accompanying person. The drive Rotec offers more seat widths and adjustable push handles. Its legrest length adjusts continuously. Consider it when fitting the chair to the user and the person pushing it is a priority.
Lightweight wheelchairs: Litec 2G, Litec 2G Plus and Freetec
If you frequently load a wheelchair into a car, consider the drive Litec 2G: its aluminium frame and quick-release rear wheels help with dismantling for transport. The drive Litec 2G Plus adds equipment including a seat cushion, pelvic belt, walking-stick holder and anti-tip support. The drive Freetec focuses on individual adjustment, with adaptable backrest upholstery and adjustable arm supports. Like the Rotec, it offers seat widths from 38 to 54 cm.
Multifunction: Multitec for positioning
The drive Multitec provides adjustable seat tilt and backrest recline, an adjustable headrest and elevating legrests. It may suit more extensive positioning needs at home or in a care setting. Have its suitability and settings assessed by a qualified professional.
For short journeys with someone always available to push, consider transport chairs. These are designed for assisted travel. Our guide to wheelchair types explains the distinction.
Compare wheelchair models and prices
Prices checked in October 2026: Ecotec 2G from CHF 299, Rotec from CHF 369, Litec 2G from CHF 429, Litec 2G Plus from CHF 499, Freetec from CHF 559 and Multitec from CHF 1’399. The current price for your selected variant applies.
The wheelchair comparison covers the standard and lightweight models. Check the Multitec separately for its positioning functions. Alongside price, compare included accessories, seating dimensions and brake options: extra equipment is most useful when it meets an everyday need.
Choose the seat width and check overall width
Seat width needs to fit the person; overall width determines whether the chair passes through a doorway. Measure the hips and thighs while seated in usual clothing. An overly narrow seat presses against the body; an overly wide one makes the hand rims harder to reach. Also check seat height and depth, footrests and maximum user weight.
Measure the narrowest usable door openings, lift and bathroom. Allow room to turn and space for hands on the hand rims. The wheelchair measuring guide takes you through the steps. Do not choose an undersized seat simply to fit through a door.
Weight and folded dimensions for transport
Listed total weights range from 13.6 to 16 kg for the Litec 2G and from 18.6 to 20.2 kg for the Ecotec 2G, depending on seat width and brake configuration. These figures differ from the weight of the remaining frame once the wheels have been removed.
Compare folded width, length and height with the car boot and its opening. Removable parts and quick-release axles help with stowing. This advice concerns transporting an empty wheelchair.
Self-propelling or being pushed?
Hand rims let the user propel the chair; they must be within reach and manageable for that person. Parking brakes secure the stationary wheelchair. Drum brakes operated from the push handles let an accompanying person control braking while moving. All six models are offered in different brake configurations. Check your selected variant, especially for assisted journeys on slopes, and follow the instructions. Outdoors, also consider tyres, surfaces, obstacles and the manufacturer’s stated limits of use.

Who pays for a wheelchair?
Clarify funding before buying. For needs resulting from a covered accident, contact accident insurance first. Otherwise, Swiss disability insurance (IV) or old-age and survivors’ insurance (AHV) may apply, subject to eligibility. Supplementary benefits (EL) follow cantonal rules. Our wheelchair funding guide explains the relevant organisations and evidence required without promising reimbursement.
