The skull with masticatory muscles from Erler-Zimmer is a skull model that represents the four muscles of mastication as elastic bands: M. masseter, M. temporalis and M. pterygoideus medialis and lateralis. This lets you show on the model how the masticatory musculature works together during jaw closure, jaw opening and movement of the lower jaw. The calvaria is removable and the lower jaw is movably mounted.
The model is used in dentistry, physiotherapy, osteopathy and in training, wherever the function of the temporomandibular joint and the masticatory muscles is explained. It helps professionals demonstrate chewing function and jaw mechanics to patients in a clear way.
- Four masticatory muscles reproduced as elastic bands
- Shows jaw closure and the initiation of jaw opening
- Demonstrates lateral and forward displacement of the jaw
- Movably mounted lower jaw for functional demonstration
- Removable calvaria for a view inside
- Compact skull model for practice and teaching
For work on the joint and chewing function, the movable elastic muscle bands are the decisive point, as the pull and direction of the muscles can be followed directly. Anyone needing only the bony skull anatomy is well served by a plain skull model; once the masticatory musculature and jaw mechanics are the focus, this version is the right choice.
At saneq, practices and training centres can find the Erler-Zimmer skull with masticatory muscles for Switzerland.
