Cross tapes for targeted tape applications
Cross tapes are small, pre-cut tape patches with a grid-like structure. They are used in physiotherapy, therapy and practice settings for targeted applications on the skin, for example in the context of manual therapy, acupuncture, massage or complementary taping concepts. Unlike roll products such as Kinesio Tapes, cross tapes are not cut to size but applied directly in the appropriate size. This makes them particularly suitable when a compact, defined tape area is desired.
In this category you will find cross tapes from Nasara and AcuTop, among others. Typical variants differ mainly in format, quantity and type. Small formats such as 2.0 cm x 2.7 cm are often offered as Type A, medium sizes such as 2.8 cm x 3.5 cm as Type B and larger formats such as 5.2 cm x 5.5 cm as Type C. Depending on the product, packs of, for example, 180, 120 or 40 pieces are available. There are also versions in discreet colours such as beige as well as coloured variants, such as blue.
Selection: consider size, type and area of use
The right choice depends mainly on the desired adhesive area and the intended area of application. Smaller cross tapes can be placed precisely on limited areas, while larger formats cover more surface. For practices, in addition to size, the pack contents are also relevant, as consumption can vary depending on the treatment concept. Those who also work with functional tape applications can combine cross tapes with other types of tape as needed; for stronger mechanical support, Stabilising Sports Tapes are more suitable.
- Type A: small cross tapes, for example in the format 2.0 cm x 2.7 cm.
- Type B: medium cross tapes, for example in the format 2.8 cm x 3.5 cm.
- Type C: larger cross tapes, for example in the format 5.2 cm x 5.5 cm.
- Colour: beige appears inconspicuous, while coloured variants such as blue can be practical for quick differentiation.
Application and safe handling
Cross tapes are applied to clean, dry and, as far as possible, grease-free skin. Before use, the skin should be checked for irritation, open areas or known intolerances. When removing, we recommend peeling off slowly in the direction of hair growth in order to place as little strain on the skin as possible. For clean handling and storage, products from the Taping Accessories range can be a useful addition, for example when different types of tape are used regularly in practice or therapy.
- What are cross tapes and what are they used for?
- Cross tapes are small, pre-cut tape patches with a grid-shaped structure for targeted applications on the skin. They are used in therapeutic settings, in practices and for complementary taping concepts. Unlike tape rolls, they do not need to be cut to size. They are suitable when a compact adhesive surface is required at a defined spot.
- Which size of cross tape is the right one?
- The right size depends on how large the desired adhesive surface should be. Small variants such as Type A at 2.0 cm x 2.7 cm are suitable for very targeted applications, medium Type B formats cover a somewhat larger area, and large Type C cross tapes are intended for larger areas. In practice, several sizes are often kept in stock.
- What is the difference between Type A, Type B and Type C?
- Type A, Type B and Type C differ mainly in the format of the cross tapes. Type A is usually the smallest variant, for example 2.0 cm x 2.7 cm. Type B is medium-sized, around 2.8 cm x 3.5 cm. Type C is larger, for example 5.2 cm x 5.5 cm. The choice depends on the application area and the desired coverage.
- How do cross tapes differ from kinesiology tapes?
- Cross tapes are pre-cut small patches, whereas kinesiology tapes are generally cut to size from a roll and applied in longer strips. Cross tapes are used in a targeted manner and cover only a small area. Kinesiology tapes are better suited for larger, longer tape applications along muscles, joints or functional ranges of movement.
- Can cross tapes be used on sensitive skin?
- On sensitive skin, cross tapes should be used only with care and after checking skin tolerance. The skin must be clean, dry and intact. In the event of redness, itching, burning or other reactions, the tape should be removed. Persons with known adhesive intolerances or skin conditions should seek professional advice before use.
- How are cross tapes applied correctly?
- Cross tapes are applied to clean, dry and, as far as possible, grease-free skin. Before application, the desired spot should be free of cream, oil and moisture so that the adhesive sticks well. The tape is placed on the skin without strong stretching and pressed on gently. Open wounds, irritated skin areas and mucous membranes should be avoided.
- How do you remove cross tapes as gently as possible?
- Cross tapes are removed as gently as possible by slowly peeling them off in the direction of hair growth. The skin should be stabilised with one hand and the tape pulled back flat rather than being torn off abruptly. If the tape adheres strongly, careful moistening or a suitable aid used in practice can make removal easier.
