Question 1

What belongs to the cupping category within TCM supplies?

Accepted Answer

The cupping category primarily includes cupping glasses, cupping glasses with a bulb, cupping cases and complementary cupping oil. Individual glasses serve as basic equipment or replacements, while cases keep several sizes neatly arranged. Variants with a bulb allow the vacuum to be created without an additional pump or fire technique. Cupping oil is used when the glasses are to be glided across the skin.

Question 2

Should I buy individual cupping glasses or a cupping case?

Accepted Answer

A cupping case is worthwhile if several sizes are needed regularly and are to be transported or stored in an orderly manner. Individual cupping glasses are more suited to supplementing, replacing or targeted applications with only a few sizes. For practices, training settings or mobile use, a set is often more practical. Anyone who already owns equipment should first check which diameters and versions are missing.

Question 3

How do cupping glasses with a bulb differ from simple cupping glasses?

Accepted Answer

Cupping glasses with a bulb create the vacuum via a squeezable rubber bulb. This allows the suction to be controlled directly at the glass without any additional aids. Simple cupping glasses are used differently depending on the system and training, and require a suitable technique or accessories. In addition to the application method, glass size, rim quality and ease of cleaning are also important when making a choice.

Question 4

Which size of cupping glass is the right one?

Accepted Answer

The right size depends on the intended use, the body region and the preferred working technique. Smaller diameters can be more practical for smaller or contoured areas, while larger glasses cover more surface area. The product data often specify diameter, outer diameter, height, wall thickness and weight. For existing equipment, these measurements should be compared with the glasses already on hand.

Question 5

What material are cupping glasses typically made of?

Accepted Answer

Cupping glasses are frequently made of glass. Glass allows a good view of the skin and the position of the vessel, but it is prone to breakage and must be handled carefully. Before each application, the rim and surface should be checked for chips, cracks or sharp spots. Damaged glasses should not be reused for safety and hygiene reasons.

Question 6

How are cupping glasses cleaned and hygienically reprocessed?

Accepted Answer

Cupping glasses should be cleaned and reprocessed after each application in accordance with the applicable hygiene requirements and the manufacturer's instructions. Key points are the removal of visible residues, suitable disinfection and dry, clean storage. With glass, attention should additionally be paid to undamaged surfaces. Products with a bulb or additional components may have specific requirements, as the material and construction affect reprocessing.

Question 7

What is cupping oil used for in cupping?

Accepted Answer

Cupping oil is used to improve the ability of the cupping glasses to glide over the skin. It is used above all in moving cupping techniques, where the glass is not simply placed statically but guided across the skin. The choice of oil should suit skin tolerance and the planned application. Residues must be removed hygienically after the application.
