Stabilising sports tapes for training, therapy and bandaging techniques

Stabilising sports tapes are non-elastic or only slightly elastic tapes used in sports, physiotherapy and everyday practice for functional taping. They serve to guide joints or structures mechanically, to limit movements in a targeted way and to fix bandages reliably. In contrast to Kinesio Tapes, which are usually elastic and accompany movements, stabilising sports tapes focus on support, tensile strength and controlled reinforcement.

In this category you will find sports tapes from brands such as Leukotape and DermaPlast, including variants such as classic or ACTIVE Sporttape. Typical versions are, for example, rolls in white or green, with lengths such as 7 m or 10 m and widths of 2 cm, 3.75 cm or 5.0 cm. The appropriate width depends on the body region, the bandaging technique and the desired stability: narrower tapes are suitable for smaller structures or precise anchors, while wider rolls are often used for larger applications and stronger fixations.

Selection criteria for stabilising sports tapes

When choosing, the decisive factors are what the tape will be used for and how long the bandage is to be worn. Important aspects are good adhesion to the prepared skin or to underwrap material, suitable tearability for handling, and a tensile strength that matches the planned application. For clean work, products from the taping accessories section can be helpful, for example for preparing, cutting or removing tape bandages.

Width: 2 cm for fine applications, 3.75 cm as a versatile standard width, 5.0 cm for wider fixations.
Length: roll lengths such as 7 m or 10 m are suitable for repeated use in practice or training settings.
Colour: white is classic and neutral, coloured variants such as green can be used to distinguish applications.
Application: suitable for functional taping, sports care and physiotherapeutic bandaging techniques.

Take application and skin tolerance into account

Stabilising sports tapes should be applied to clean, dry and, as far as possible, grease-free skin. Depending on the skin type, hair and planned wearing time, preparing the skin may be advisable. The tape must not constrict; tingling, numbness, strong pressure points or skin irritation are reasons to remove the bandage or have it checked by a professional. For other taping approaches, such as localised stimulation, cross tapes may be considered instead of stabilising sports tapes.
