When it comes to seat width, the pelvic measurement is what counts: if the wheelchair is too narrow it presses; if it is too wide, lateral support is lacking. The pelvic width plus around two centimetres of clearance is measured. A drum brake on the push handle is worthwhile if an accompanying person often pushes, for example on downhill stretches.
